BIOGRAPHY

  • The eldest of 5 children
  • Began singing in the Holy Cross church choir at the age of 6
  • Sang first solo in front of the Grade 2 classes at the age of 7
  • Sang group and solo performances in touring school choir at the age of 9 up until Grade 6
  • Formed first 4 piece rock/pop band "Courtesy", in Grade 6 and was lead vocalist of this band at the age of 11
  • "Courtesy" performed at various elementary schools in both the public and separate boards throughout Durham Region until disbanding after their Grade 8 Graduation (2years)
  • Attended Paul Dwyer Catholic High School where Dan teamed up with Dave Komel to form the folk/rock duo "Dan & Dave" in 1972.  They performed on a consistent basis throughout Ontario at many festivals and community functions; charitable and otherwise at the age of 14

  • While continuing to perform bi-weekly at a local folk club, Dan began classical vocal training under the tutelage of Mr. Ross Cotton which paid him immediate dividends by winning the Kiwanis Festival Trophy for best male baritone 21 years and under at the age of 16
  • Became a member of the Toronto Musicians' Association after signing a management deal in 1975 at the age of 17
  • During this time Dan also became the musical director for his church folk group as well as 2 other churches in the community from age 15 thru 18
  • Soloist at weddings of all denominations at age 16 to present
  • Dan was also chosen to play the leading male role in 3 major high school productions
  • Dan graduated from Grade 13 and was chosen by his high school peers as Valedictorian of the Class Of '77
  • Post-secondary education was at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario where Dan attended classes for 2 years
  • While attending the Music Industry Arts program, Dan learned about the technical and business sides of the ever-changing music industry
  • Dan was elected President of the M.I.A Society and was the founding member of an organization known as T.A.P.E (The Association of Producers and Engineers) established to forge relationships and contacts with the active working music industry in Canada and the U.S.
  • Dan left college at the age of 19 in 1979 to become the lead singer of  "The Skip Prokop Band"; experiencing the music business first hand...
  • Skip left the band while Dan and the remaining members formed the group "Suspect" which played the club circuit across the country until disbanding in 1981
  • Disenchanted with the music industry at the time, Dan took an 18 month leave (with the exception of weddings, church music) to re-evaluate his career.
  • In 1984 at the age of 26, Dan began, once again working the club circuit where he immediately re-established himself as the main attraction in the Durham Region

                                     

  • Dan has managed over the years to network and establish many contacts in the "live" and recording industry here in Ontario
  • In May of 1988, Dan became a member of ACTRA and has had the privilege of lending his voice to many radio and television commercials locally, nationally and internationally
  • In 1992 while working in a club in Oshawa, Dan was approached by Paul and Brenda Hoffert to replace the ailing Bob McBride as the new lead singer  
    of 4-time JUNO award winning Canadian Super-group "LIGHTHOUSE"
  • The exposure has proven to be uplifting for both Dan and "LIGHTHOUSE". While continuing to promote their extensive catalogue of memorable hits; old and new (Song Of The Ages-1996, LIGHTHOUSE LIVE in STUDIO DVD-2008) and gain much notoriety and critical acclaim throughout Canada, Dan has been accepted by "LIGHTHOUSE" fans overwhelmingly; increasing the band's popularity among new fans
  • In addition to being the lead vocalist for "LIGHTHOUSE" Dan continues to perform locally and throughout North America as a solo artist, with The Dan Clancy Band, The 905 Band, The Bluesual Suspects Orchestra and the League of Rock All-Stars at corporate functions and many social events
  • Dan established his own record label, Collective Records in 2000 and launched the Collective Music Business Academy (fall 2008) to help advance the careers of aspiring talent in Durham Region and the GTA
  • Dan teamed up with the world-renowned studio design group pilchner-schoustal international inc. to construction his state-of-the-art, fully automated digital recording facility Collective Studios
  • Dan formed a new company Collective Music Group Inc. (2010) to manage the divisions of Collective Records, Collective Studios and the Collective Music Business Academy
